The qualification will meet the needs of a range of teachers and trainee teachers who would like to gain a qualification which focuses on practical teaching. It will be appropriate for those with some experience of teaching and training. This could include individuals who are not currently teaching and training but who can meet the practice requirements outlined in the mandatory and optional units. It is also appropriate for individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

The qualification has a minimum of 140 guided learning hours and learners must be able to evidence 30 hours of teaching practice.

How is the qualification assessed?

Through a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates the learner has met the required assessment criteria. Where can this course be taken?

This course is delivered by a combination of classroom, distance and work-based learning. It can be delivered anywhere. An initial meeting takes place where assessment of the learner’s current teaching and academic skills is made. If the learner has no formal academic qualifications then a literacy, numeracy and IT test will have to be sat. This is followed then by three days in the classroom working through the requirements of the qualification, discussing the 5 mandatory units and picking out the remaining voluntary units to achieve the required credit levels. The assignments via a work-book can then be completed at the learners own pace from his or her home or work-place.
