Reasonable Adjustments Policy 01.07.2022
Introduction
An extensive induction programme is provided for all candidates who enter into our training programmes. Initial assessment includes functional skills testing and an assessment of capability and any special requirements. During training, delivery support is provided at all times by the trainers and assessors. Regular reviews are carried out during each course.
Learners with Particular Requirements
Due to the nature of the work most persons enrolling on courses provided by McCormack Training Ltd must be physically able to carry out the role and it is also a requirement that they are able to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing. All learners will be provided with the support required to achieve the qualification.
Dyslexia may well be an issue for some and where this particular requirement is notified or observed at an early stage, support strategies will be employed. These strategies may include 1:1 reading support and/or referral to a local college.
Arrangements for candidates with particular assessment requirements
Principles
The company will ensure that there are no unnecessary barriers to assessment which prevent candidates from effectively demonstrating their attainment. Arrangements for candidates with particular assessment requirements (special arrangements) will also ensure that such candidates are not given, or do not appear to be given, an unfair advantage. Special arrangements are generally not appropriate where the candidate’s particular difficulty directly affects performance in the actual attributes that are the focus of assessment.
The company will make reasonable adjustments according to the needs of the individual candidate, reflecting the candidate’s usual method of working, the assessment requirements as set out in the specification and any guidelines set down by the regulatory authorities.
The assessment team will ensure in making special arrangements that the validity, reliability and integrity of the assessment are preserved and that certificates accurately reflect candidate attainment.
Special consideration
The company will make provision for special consideration to ensure that candidates who suffer temporary illness, injury or indisposition at the time of independent (including external) assessment are treated fairly in accordance with any guidelines from the regulatory authority’s particular to the qualification. If a reasonable adjustment to assessment methods is considered necessary, our procedure will be to:
• Identify learners who require reasonable adjustments prior to delivery of course.
• Apply to the relevant awarding organisation for approval where identification of a learner who requires, reasonable adjustments has been identified
• Make necessary provision, however ensuring that assessment demand is not lowered.
• Inform Internal Quality Assurer of learners on a qualification that is completing the assessment using a particular reasonable adjustment method.
• Maintain accurate records of learners with reasonable adjustments as this will be monitored through the External Quality Assurance system.
• Supply information to the relevant awarding organisation on the use of reasonable adjustments with learners as requested.
